A tooth abscess or a dental abscess is the accumulation of pus inside the tooth or gums. This occurs due to a bacterial infection and forms inside the softer portion of the tooth. If you are careless about the plaque forming from food particles and saliva and fail to clean it regularly, the bacteria will spread inside the gums and the soft tissues. Eventually, there is pus formation and that leads to an abscess.

There are mostly three types of the dental abscess - Gingival Abscess which spreads to the gum tissue without affecting the tooth, Periodontal Abscess which in the bone tissue structuring the teeth and Periapical Abscess which begins in the softest part of the tooth.

A dental abscess is not a light issue that can be left untreated. People having signs of abscess can even suffer from breathing problems, let alone facing swallowing issues. It is best to avoid sugary foods, the main cause of the formation of the abscess, and at least, brush your teeth twice a day.
