The Major Causes behind Athetosis Issues

Athetosis is the dysfunction of movement that bears the characteristics of involuntary writhing movements. People suffering from this face the difficulty of maintaining a stable and symmetrical posture. This disease primarily attacks the parts of arms, feet and hands and secondarily, the face, tongue and neck can get affected as well.

The movements become stunted and slow and worsen if you try to control your movement. If you are suffering from this and try to type on a keyboard, you will have extreme difficulty in regulating the movement of your fingers and which keys to type.

Symptoms of Athetosis

The most common symptom to understand that you are suffering from athetosis is when you have involuntary and slow muscle movements. Along with it, you will experience writhing pain in the muscles. The whole thing worsens if you try to control the movement. It might get restricted or muscles might get overflowed in some cases.

Overflowing of muscles indicate uncontrolled movement or activity in a different group of muscles when you are trying to control the movement in another group of muscles.

Causes of Athetosis

Athetosis can be due to certain neurological diseases. The potential causes include:

1. Basal Ganglia Disease - This happens due to damage to the brain. The inability in controlling the nerve impulses results in the failure of the coordination of the muscles in times of movement.

2. Cerebral Palsy - CP is caused due to high bilirubin levels and damages the brain, thus affecting the functionality of movement.

3. Birth Difficulty -
If a baby has an oxygen deficit at the time of his birth, then he will develop Asphyxia which will damage the brain. The dopamine levels in the brain get increased and the baby develops athetosis.

Athetosis leads to inability at standing and also difficulty in talking. Refer to Curedit to get relief.
